The first laptops with AMD Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” processors are now shipping. And soon you may be able to buy a tiny desktop computer featuring one of AMD’s latest mobile chips.
The upcoming Beelink SER9 is set to be one of the first mini PCs with a Strix Point processor, featuring support for up to an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
Beelink shared a teaser for the SER9 on reddit, but more details have emerged on Chinese social media site Weibo, where a poster says that Beelink will officially launch the SER9 sometime after September 17th.
AMD’s Strix Point processors are 15-54 watt chips with 4 high-performance Zen 5 CPU cores, up to 8 Zen 5C cores, and up to Radeon 890M graphics with 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores. They also incorporate a Ryzen AI NPU that delivers up to 55 TOPS of AI performance.
CPU Cores / Threads | Zen 5 + 5C cores | Base / Max Boost CPU boost | L2 + L3 cache | Ryzen AI NPU | GPU | TDP | |
Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 | 12 / 24 | 4 x Zen 5 + 8 x Zen 5C | 2 GHz / 5.1 GHz | 36MB | 55 TOPS | Radeon 890M (16 x RDNA 3.5 up to 2.9 GHz) | 15-54W |
Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 | 12 / 24 | 4 x Zen 5 + 8 x Zen 5C | 2 GHz / 5.1 GHz | 36MB | 50 TOPS | Radeon 890M (16 x RDNA 3.5 up to 2.9 GHz) | 15-54W |
Ryzen AI 9 365 | 10 /20 | 4 x Zen 5 + 6 x Zen 5C | 2 GHz / 5 GHz | 34MB | 50 TOPS | Radeon 880M ( 12 x RDNA 3.5 up to 2.9 GHz) | 15 – 54W |
Compared with previous-gen AMD “Hawk Point” and “Phoenix” processors, the new chips should bring a significant boost in single-core CPU performance, a bigger boost in multi-core performance, and up to 30 percent better graphics. The NPU is also around 3 times as powerful as the version included in AMD’s previous-gen chips, if that’s a feature you care about.
The long and short of it is that even without discrete graphics, you could theoretically use a mini PC or laptop with a Ryzen AI 300 series processor as an entry-level gaming PC or for lightweight video editing or other tasks that can leverage the next-gen CPU, GPU, and NPU.
The mini PC is expected to feature up to 32GB of LPDDR5x-7500 memory and an M.2 slot for a PCIe 4.0 SSD. Based on available pictures, the physical design for the Beelink SER9 will be very similar to that of the previous-gen Beelink SER8, which has an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS Hawk Point processor.
Bot models have a set of ports that includes:
- 1 x USB4 Type-C (40 Gbps)
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps)
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
- 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
- 1 x HDMI 2.0
- 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
- 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet
- 2 x 3.5mm audio
- 1 x DC power input
Beelink hasn’t yet announced how much the SER9 will cost or when it will be available for purchase.
