The Miniproca is a small desktop computer with a 45-watt AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor, DDR5-4800 memory and an M.2 2280 slot with support for PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. But what really makes this mini PC stand out is the 7 inch display on top of the case. It’s a touchscreen display that can be flipped up when you need it for use as a primary or secondary screen, or folded down when you’re not using it.
The folks behind the mini PC have launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the Miniproca, with Super Early Bird prices starting at $699.
The starting price is for a model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but the system can also be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, with the top tier model going for $919 to Super Early Bird backers.
While the prices aren’t ridiculous, they’re also not stellar for a computer with a 2-year-old processor… but the Ryzen 6900HX is still a pretty decent performer, with 8 Zen 3+ CPU cores and Radeon 680M integrated graphics with 12 RDNA 2 GPU cores. And keep in mind that those are discounted prices – suggested retail prices are said to range from $1259 to $1999 which is absolutely not worth it.
That said, this is a pretty unusual little computer that might scratch the itch of someone looking for a compact PC with a built-in display but would prefer a mini PC over a laptop (possibly due to the room for additional ports).
The Miniproca measures 175 x 137 x 55mm (6.9″ x 5.4″ x 2.2″) and has a 4,000 RPM fan and vapor chamber cooling inside the aluminum alloy chassis.
Around the outside you’ll find a set of ports that includes:
- 2 x USB Type-C (only one is described as “full-featured”)
- 2 x USB 3.2 Type-A
- 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
- 1 x HDMI 2.1
- 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
- 2 x 2.5 GbE LAN
- 1 x 3.5mm audio
- 1 x DC power input (19V/6.32A, 120W)
The system supports up to three 4K displays (or up to four displays total if you count the built-in screen), and supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connections.
