The SZBOX S7 is a small computer that walks the fine line between mini PC and tablet. Like a tablet it has a 7 inch touchscreen display and a built-in battery. But it’s also a little chunky by tablet standards, because there’s a fan inside the case for active cooling and room along the sides for full-sized USB, HDMI, and Ethernet ports.

Whatever the S7 is, you can buy one now from AliExpress, where prices start at about $250.

The starting price is for a model with 16GB of LPDDR5-4800 memory but no storage or operating system. You can pay a little more for a model that comes with storage: SZBOX offers configurations with as little as 128GB or as much as 2TB. Or you can bring your own storage: the computer has an M.2 2242 slot with support for PCIe NVMe or SATA SSDs.

All models ship standard with a 6-watt Intel N100 quad-core processor based on Intel Alder Lake-N architecture, 16GB of RAM, and a 7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel touchscreen display.

The little computer measures 174 x 116 x 22mm (6.85″ x 4.57″ x 0.87″) and has a built-in kickstand that allows you to prop up the computer so you can view the screen when it’s resting on a flat surface. There’s a 7,200 mAh battery inside the case, as well as an Intel AX201 wireless card with support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

Ports include:

  • 1 x USB Type-C (with DisplayPort Alt mode and USB Power delivery)
  • 1 x USB Type-C (for power only)
  • 3 x USB 3.2 Type-A
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1 x HDMI
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a hard-to-classify mini PC with a screen and battery like this. Chinese PC maker HIGOLE has been offering similar devices for years. And that company has also recently started offering models with Intel N100 chips, but the most recent HIGOLE F9B model has a smaller battery and slower WiFi (but faster Ethernet) than the SZBOX S7. Interestingly HIGOLE does offer a model with 4G LTE support though, as well as a cheaper version with no screen or battery.
