The SZBOX G48S is a compact computer that looks more like a router than a PC… although the lines between those two product categories are pretty blurry these days.
What makes this mode interesting is that it’s a small, affordable, and silent system that pairs an Intel Alder Lake-N processor with support for up to 16GB of RAM, an M.2 2280 slot for storage, and a set of I/O features that includes four 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports. The SZBOX G48S is available from AliExpress with prices starting at $118 for a barebones model or $154 for a version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
According to the product description, the little computer features DDR5 memory, a PCIe NVMe SSD, and four RJ45 ports with an Intel i226-V 2.5 GbE Ethernet controller, as well as a COM input and additional ports that include:
- 2 x USB 3.0 Type-A
- 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
- 1 x HDMI
- 1 x DisplayPort
There’s also a 12V DC power input, and a SIM card slot (although I suspect you’ll need to bring your own wireless card if you want to make use of that.
Aside from those details, the product page is rather light on information. But SZBOX describes the system as a “pfSense Firewall Appliance” or “Soft Router,” although pfSense is clearly just one of many different operating systems you could install on the G48S.
It’s also described as a computer that’s designed for 24/7 operation thanks to its fanless design and low-power 6-watt, quad-core Intel N100 processor based on Intel Alder Lake-N architecture.
